On the hottest week of the summer, our schedule fills fast. We'd rather you get cool air back today than wait on us for something simple — so before you call, run through these.
Check these first
- Thermostat: set to COOL, fan on AUTO, and the setpoint actually below room temperature. Replace the batteries if it's battery powered.
- Air filter: if it's grey and packed, swap it. Restricted airflow can freeze the indoor coil solid.
- Frozen coil: if you see ice on the refrigerant line or indoor coil, shut the system off and run the fan only for a few hours to thaw it before restarting.
- Outdoor unit: clear grass clippings, leaves, and shrubs back at least two feet, and make sure the fan is spinning when the system calls for cooling.
- Breakers: both the indoor and outdoor circuits, plus the outdoor disconnect box next to the condenser.
When to stop and call
Call us if the breaker trips again after you reset it once, if you hear a hum but the outdoor fan doesn't start, if the coil refreezes after thawing, or if you smell anything burning. Repeated breaker resets on a failing compressor can turn a repair into a replacement.
Low refrigerant is never just low — it means a leak, and topping it off without finding the leak is throwing money at the problem.
Our pricing on repairs
Our diagnostic fee is $129. You get a firm price for the repair before any work starts, and ComfortShield Club members get no emergency fee plus a discount on the repair itself.
Still not cooling? Call us — we offer same-day appointments and 24/7 emergency service.
